Bosingak ( 보신각 )
Place Category: Attraction and Historic Sites
It is a building constructed in 1395 to protect the bell. The bell that used to alarm the open and close time of the four main gates of old Seoul in the Joseon Dynasty has been kept in the National Museum of Korea and it is replaced with the newly founded bell at present. It is the place where a grand bell-tolling ceremony takes place on the first day of every New Year. Bosingak has held the Watch-Night bell, tolling Bosingak Bell 33 times, on the last day of every year since 1953.
