Bukchon Hanok Village is located between Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung and Jongmyo. It is one of the famous Hanok villages in Seoul. For having many cultural heritage and folklore, it is called “street museum” in Seoul. The houses (Hanok) had been built densely one another. Because of the economic crisis in the 1930s, land for Hanok was broken down into a smaller land. This reflects the high density of typical modern city and modernization of the Joseon Dynasty reflected on Bukchon Hanok Village. In the neighborhood, at Samcheong-dong, particularly around the palaces, many galleries and unique designed cafes are located. Those traditional Hanok added with modern architectural elements are regarded as hot cultural places in Seoul.
