Korean Traditional Stage MISO at Chongdong Theater ( 정동 극장 )
Place Category: Performing Arts
Chongdong Theater’s “Korean Traditional Stage” performance has been running ever since 1997. Here the audience can enjoy a selection of some of Korea’s most famous traditional performing arts, such as pansori, a traditional percussion quartet, a fan dance, and dance that was once performed in a shamanism exorcism ritual. Detailed subtitles in English, Japanese, and Chinese, explain the performances.
During the show audience members are welcomed on stage to assist performers in Beona (an act where round plates are spun on top of long sticks or pipes), and after the show the audience can take photos with the performers in the Chongdong Theater’s outdoor courtyard.
MISO is a traditional stage show that is performed daily at the Chongdong Theater at 8:00pm from January to March and at 4:00pm and 8:00pm from April to December (please note no performances on Monday). Moreover, the theater also offers a Janggu (traditional Korean double-headed drum) experience class and visitors who arrive one hour before the show begins can take photos wearing traditional Korean costume.
