Bukchon Hanok Village is a traditional Korean House reserve at the foothill of Bukak mountain between Gyeongbok Palace, Changdeok Palace, and secret garden; it is also called Bukchon because it is the northern town of Cheonggye creek and Jongno. Bukchon Hanok Village is the high-class residential place of royal families, high rank government officers, and nobilities. All houses were built during the Joseon dynasty era.
Originally there were only a couple of house with high doors and 30 traditional Korean houses. A lot of traditional Korean houses were built from the end of Japanese occupancy. The Gahoe-dong reserve was cancelled in 1992 and building height limitation was removed in 1994. Thereafter, many general houses were built. There are total 2,297 buildings and 1,408 buildings among them were traditional Korean style buildings. Bukchon Hanok Village is a first urban houses as a Korean-style house in “ㄷ” shape which is constructed in a group at a little small lot from 1930’s.
